Splint King is a Sydney based company that specialises in the design and manufacturing of occlusal splints. Conventional methods of occlusal splint fabrication are a thing of the past. Analog techniques and labour-intensive protocols result in time-consuming and technically sensitive methods, which are both costly for the patient and clinician.

Impressions are taken using a 3D intra-oral scanner, where they are digitally rendered. CAM software is used to virtually articulate the maxilla-mandibular relationship during maximal intercuspation, and simulate jaw movement from the centric position. Once the bite is established, the appliance border is outlined and designed. Calculations are performed and dimensions generated to give a minimal occlusal thickness.

Implementation of CAD/CAM printing technologies optimise the occlusal splint design and manufacture process. 3D printing provides a heightened level of accuracy and predictability, removing human-induced errors in traditional hand casting methods. This allows the 3D printed occlusal splint to be more efficiently designed, providing a product that is lighter, more flexible and durable.
